Version 1.0.0. This download is for manual installation and is not a browser-store listing. Use a regular desktop browser; extensions cannot be installed in the in-app browser.
Download extension ZIP- Extract the ZIP into a folder you will keep.
- Open
chrome://extensionsoredge://extensions, enable Developer mode, then choose Load unpacked. - Select the extracted folder containing
manifest.json. Keep that folder in place. - Right-click a website link and choose Shorten this link with 1shorturl. Right-click the page background to shorten that page, or use the extension’s toolbar icon.
- Review the destination in the new 1shorturl tab. To save to your account, sign in first and repeat the extension action. Complete verification and choose Shorten link.
Managed browsers may block manual installation. Firefox, Safari and mobile browsers are not included. To update, replace the extracted files and choose Reload on the Extensions page. Choose Remove there to uninstall.
Your account stays in the website
No password or API key is needed in the extension. It uses your normal browser’s website session; a sign-in inside another browser or the in-app browser may not carry over. Registered Free and Premium users can use it; guests retain the 24-hour limit.
The extension reads the link or page URL only when you choose an action. It does not inject page scripts, save browsing history or shorten in the background. The URL is passed in an address fragment, which the site clears after loading. Review query parameters for private information before sharing. The site receives the destination when you submit the form, with its existing safety and privacy checks.
Browser-internal, file and script URLs are unsupported. If the toolbar shows !, hover over it for the explanation. Read the privacy policy.
